RITES FRIDAY

Viola Watson, 74, of Searsboro died Tuesday, June 3, at Grinnell General Hospital after suffering a stroke.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Santee of the Lynnville Friends Church officiating. Organist will be Harriett Macy, and pallbearers will be Charles Arment, Ron Baker, Charles Watson, Fred Watson, Oran Watson and Raymond Watson. Burial will be in the West Liberty Cemetery near Searsboro.

The daughter of Fred C. and Martha Pratt Watson, she was born west of Searsboro on Nov. 25, 1911. She attended the Searsboro schools, graduating from Searsboro High School in 1930.

She attended Central College in Pella for two years and graduated from the University of Northern Iowa receiving her degree in education. She taught English, mathematics and normal training for over 20 years in high schools at Eddyville, Fonda, Bonaparte, Lynnville, Colfax, North English and Malcom before retiring to care for her mother and sister at Searsboro.

She is survived by four brothers and two sisters, Ida Watson, Leo Watson, Alvah Watson and Lewis Watson, all of Searsboro, Robey Watson of Montezuma and Alice Johnson of Searsboro.

She was preceded in death by her twin brother in infancy; her parents; and two brothers, Joe and LeRoy Watson.
