JEANNINE BROTHERSEN BRANT

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Victor, for Mrs. Bill (Jeannine) Brant, age 22, of LeMars, Iowa and formerly of rural Guernsey. Mrs. Brant died Monday, Oct. 22, 1979 near DuBois, Wyo. as the result of injuries sustained in a traffic accident.

The principle celebrant of the funeral mass was The Rev. Maynard Brothersen. Concelebrants were The Rev. Eugene Hoenig and The Rev. Karl Holtkamp.

Mrs. Francis Kriegel accompanied Jack McGivern as he sang "Ave Maria" and "The Lord's Prayer."

Concluding services and burial were held at Calvary Cemetery at Victor with Mrs. Brant's brothers - Robert Brothersen, Gregory Brothersen, Gary Brothersen, John Michael Brothersen, David Brothersen and Darrel Brothersen, serving as casket bearers.

The Parish Rosary was held at 8:00 p.m. Friday, at the McAnnich-Fremming Funeral Home Chapel, Victor.

Alyce Jeannine Brothersen was born June 27, 1957 at Grinnell, Iowa. She was the daughter of Harold Robert and Genevieve McGivern Brothersen.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Victor; the same church of which she has been a life long member.

Jeannine attended and later graduated from the BGM Community Schools at Brooklyn in 1975.

She was an All-State track star during her freshman and junior years and participated in the National Federation Track Meet at Wichita, Kansas as a freshman and later as a junior when the same tournament was conducted at Hastings, Neb.

She was a member of the 1971 BGM Cross Country State Championship Track Team and served as the guest of honor at the 1977 Brooklyn Kiwanis Track Meet at Brooklyn, Iowa.

Her outstanding enthusiasm for athletics also included the sports of basketball and softball. At the time of her death she held many local and area track records.

Jeannine was also a member of KGRN radio station's All-State and All-Conference Track Team.

Following her graduation from BGM she was awarded an athletic scholarship to attend Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. It was here that she participated in track and also on the first girl's basketball team.

She graduated from Drake in December of 1978 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in physical education and health.

Jeannine later served as a substitute teacher in the BGM and HLV School Districts.

On February 17, 1979 she was united in marriage to Billy Ray Brant at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Victor.

Following their marriage they lived for a short time in Fort Morgan, Colo., before establishing their home in LeMars, Iowa. This was her home at the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her father, her paternal grandfather and her maternal grandparents.

Jeannine is survived by her husband - Bill of LeMars; her mother - Mrs. H.R. Brothersen of rural Guernsey; six brothers - Robert of Brooklyn, Gregory of Houston, Texas, Gary of Brooklyn, John Michael of Brooklyn, David of Iowa City, and Darrel of Des Moines; three sisters - Patricia, Mrs. David Cline of Tama, Peggy, Mrs. David Franklin of Houston, Texas and Janelle Brothersen of rural Guernsey.

Also surviving are her paternal grandmother - Mrs. Teresa Brothersen of rural Victor as well as several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and other relatives.
