WELLKNOWN PIONEER
FAMILY DIED NOV. 5

Word has been received in Grinnell of the death on Nov. 5 of Franklin Enos Willard, a member of a pioneer Grinnell family, in California. Mr. Willard lived at Capistrano Palisades, just down the coast from Laguna Beach. He was 85 years of age.

Mr. Willard was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Willard, residents of Grinnell for many years. He had come to Capistrano Palisades five years ago from Seattle, Wash., where he had been assistant superintendent of schools since 1907. The oldest of the Willard children, he graduated from college here in 1889 and taught in various Iowa schools before going west. At one time he was school superintendent in Spencer. He had been in failing health for the past few years.

Surviving are his widow, Blanche, of Capistrano Palisades, two sons, Dr. William R. Willard, head of the medical school at New York university in Syracuse, N.Y., and Dr. Donald F. Willard of Bremerton, Wash.; a daughter, Mrs. Charles W. Bowman of Easton, Md.; two sisters, Miss Faith Willard, who went to California from Grinnell only a few months ago, and Mrs. Willis Kyle, both of San Marino and a brother, Will, of Lincoln, Nebr.
