JAMES KINZER

James M. Kinzer, 91, of Crystal Lake, Ill., died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, Ill.

The visitation was held Friday, Oct. 16, at Colonial Funeral Home in McHenry. Prayers were said Saturday, Oct. 17, at the funeral home before a Mass celebration at the Church of Holy Apostles in McHenry. Interment was in the church cemetery.

He was born June 25, 1918, in Grinnell to Dr. Walton and Clara Andrews Kinzer. He married Mary Jaksetic on Nov. 3, 1943, in New York City.

He enlisted as an apprentice seaman July 10, 1941, and served on convoy duty on the East Coast. He was released from the service June 20, 1946. He was a student at Iowa State University and had worked as an electrician with Libby Owana Ford. He was a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Shriners, Royal Arch Masons in Ohio. He also was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Toledo, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; his children James Kinzer Jr. of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, and Richard Kinzer of Crystal Lake; four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth Kinzer Johnson.
