ILEEN M. BAUMAN

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 21, at the United Methodist Church in Malcom for Ileen M. Bauman, 78, of Malcom, who died Nov. 18, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Pastor Carol Wehr and associate pastor, Virgil Scott, officiated.

Music was by pianist Jill Bauman, Julie Cheney, who provided the solo, "How great Thou Art," congregatinal hymns "Amazing Grace" and "the Old Rugged Cross," "I'll Be There," a tape by the Escape Club, and "Jesus Loves Me" by the children of the congregation.

Casket bearers were Dale McCammant Jr., John McCammant, Brian Mitchell, Jamie Evans, Dwaine Bauman, Jeff Bauman, Rusty Massengale, Bill Massengale and Wyatt Bauman.

Honorary bearers were Phyllis Yarger, Dee Dee McDonald, Terri Possehn, Joan Hunt, Susan Wright, Brenda Struth, Tina Brazell, Jennifer Holley, Shelley Tharp, Jody Mathes, Annie Bauman and Allison Bauman. Flower bearers were Kim Kolars, Joyce Otto and Regina Urfer. Interment was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

The daughter of Raymond and Myrtle Dewald Ward, Ileen was born Oct. 21, 1921, in Marengo. She was raised in the Malcom area and received her education in the Malcom School District.

She was married to Lyle Bauman Oct. 21, 1939, at her parents' home in rural Malcom. The couple farmed in Poweshiek County prior to moving to Malcom in 1957, and together they owned and operated Lyle's Market in Malcom for several years. After selling the business in 1972, Ileen was employed with Grinnell College until her retirement in 1984.

Ileen was a member of the Malcom United Methodist Church, where she was active serving on the church board and as financial secretary. She was also past president of the United Methodist Women and was a member of various other organizations in Malcom and Brooklyn.

Ileen's focal points in life were her family and church, and almost everything was centered on the two. She loved her family, she loved people and she loved life. She was a great and dear friend to many.

Her passions included arts and crafts and gardening. She enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, quilting and baking. She also enjoyed flowers and canning her vegetables. She will be missed by many.

Her parents and one sister, Vera Kaldenberg, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Lyle, of Malcom; two sons and their spouses, Roger and Dianna Bauman of Montezuma and Lyle and Kim Bauman Jr. of Brooklyn; four daughters and their spouses, Patricia and Larry Massengale of Montezuma, Sharon and Bill Linderwell of Guttenberg, Virginia and Jack White of Winnsboro, La., and Beverly and Dale McCammant of Malcom; 21 grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Lawrence Ward, and his wife, Bonnie, of Memphis, Mo.; two sisters, LaVon Ketels of Montezuma and Alberta Mason and her husband, Melvin, of Grafton, Wis.; one sister-in-law, Ruby Cowman, and her husband, Floyd, of Pleasantville.
