GORDON EARLEY

Gordon Edward Earley, 76 of Montezuma passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at his Montezuma home. Funeral services will begin at 12:00 p.m. Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home. Visitation will begin after noon on Thursday, August 18 with the family present from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be held in the Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Compassus or the Wounded Warrior Project.

Gordon Edward Earley was born in Wheatland, Indiana, on December 18, 1934, the son of Virgil and Sadie Doane Earley. Gordon joined the Marine Corps in 1952. On March 31, 1956, Gordon was united in marriage to Mary Carol Sutfin. Gordon retired from the service at age 39 in 1974 as a Marine Captain. He served one tour of duty in Korea and two tours in Viet Nam. The couple then moved to Malcom where Gordon became a business manager for several businesses. They opened the Pour House Bar and Grill and was also the owner of the Captain's Nest in Barnes City. They also lived in Missouri where they managed multiple apartment complexes. In 1987, Gordon received his B.A. degree in Criminal Justice from Central Missouri State University. He later received his honorary Juris Doctorate Law degree from University of Missouri. Gordon was a member of the Marine Corp Officers Association. He enjoyed teasing his grandchildren and was very generous to his family. His family will always remember that he was an excellent interrogator as well as a father that taught them honor and respect. Gordon's family will always remember his two loyal dog companions, Chief and Mook.

Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carol in 2009, two grandchildren, Timothy Davis and Tiffany Earley, two brothers, Virgil Earley & John Earley, and one sister Pauline Boyles.

He is survived by his sons, Godon Earley Jr., Waterloo, IA, Cary (Jan) Earley of Guernsey, Brian Early of Casa Grande, AZ, and Brent (Ann) Earley of Davenport, IA; three daughters, Lisa (Greg) Lee of Montezuma, Michelle (Fran) Roth of Marengo and Laura Earley of Montezuma; his brothers Robert (Colleen) Earley of Eastland, GA, Donald (Jean) Earley of Vincennes, IN, Paul (Janet) Earley of Vincennes, IN, Dwight (Marilyn) Earley of Odon, IN, and Duane (Sharon) Earley of Morristown, IN, his sisters, Mildred (Lawrence) Steimel of Wheatland, IN, Helen Summers of Indianapolis, IN, Norma (Joe) Bonhomme of Wheatland, IN, and Linda (Leon) Thompson of Indianapolis, IN, and his twenty six grandchildren as well as twenty four great grandchildren.
