OBITUARY.

MRS. N.M. CASS.

Emma B. Elliott, was born in New Hampshire Sept. 1, 1839. She was united in marriage to Nason M. Cass, and in 1867 they came to Iowa, locating on a farm south-east of Grinnell. Later they moved into town, Mr. Cass going into the grocery business on Main street, occupying part of the building now used by Mr. Ramsey. Soon after coming to Iowa, while yet on the farm, Mrs. Cass united with the Baptist church, being baptized by Rev. N.M. Brande. Soon afterwards her husband followed her. Both were efficient workers until death called the husband in 1885. Three children and the wife survived him, Elmer, Lewis, and Emma. Soon after the father's death the family moved to Minneapolis. There the daughter died in 1890, and there, at the home of her son, Elmer, the mother died May 6, 1914. The remains were brought to Grinnell for interment in the family lot in Hazelwood Cemetery. Brief services were held at the grave, Friday morning, May 8, Rev. Frank H. Webster officiating. Mrs. Cass will be remembered by many of Grinnell's older settlers, whose sympathy goes out to the surviving sons and their families.
