KATHERINE WOOTEN

Katherine R. Wooten, formerly of Tama, died Jan. 31 at Friendship Haven Care Center in Fort Dodge where she had made her home since 1989.

Funeral services were held Feb. 2 at the Harrison Funeral Home in Tama with the Rev. Melinda Cree, pastor of the Malcom-Sheridan Parish, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Glenn Berrey. Pallbearers were Charles Anthony, Clair Simmons, Donald Parker, Mark Wooten, Byron Wooten and Dale E. Wooten. Burial was in Sheridan Cemetery, rural Malcom. A memorial fund has been established.

She was born April 24, 1902, at Haven, the daughter of Wilbur and Neola Mommer Rhodes. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1923. She taught in the rural schools in Tama until 1956, then taught in the Grinnell-Newburg School District until 1968. She also taught six years in St. Patick's Parochial School, Tama, retiring in 1974.

She was a member of the Sheridan United Methodist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary and the Iowa Retired Teachers Association.

She is survived by two sons Jack, Waukesha, Wis., and R. Dale Wooten, Fort Dodge; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
