DUANE BRAACK SERVICES SET

Duane Braack, 56, of Oskaloosa, formerly of Grinnell, died in a car-train collision Tuesday near the Poweshiek-Mahaska county line.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Kenneth Santee, pastor of the Lynnville Friends Church, officiating. Military rites and burial will be at the Friends Cemetery northeast of Lynnville.

The son of Peter and Grace Shoemaker Braack, he was born near Montour on July 22, 1930. He attended Marshalltown schools and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

He was married to Helen Chandler, now of Buena Vista, Colo., and the marriage ended in divorce. He was later married to Lola Brummond, now a resident of Brookside West in Grinnell. That marriage also ended in divorce.

Mr. Braack lived in Marshalltown, Grinnell and Lynnville, then returned to Grinnell before moving to Oskaloosa in 1985. He was employed as a painter at Miracle Recreation Equipment Co. in Grinnell and later with Neiderhauser Aviation in Marshalltown. He had also worked as a fishing guide in Canada.

Survivors include one son, Duane Jr. of Denver, Colo.; four stepchildren, Jilton Braack and Ricki Lanser of Pella and Rita Carlson and Shelley Westercamp of Lynnville; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Robert of Marshalltown and Frederick of Tallahassee, Fla.; and one sister, Donna Alexander of Marshalltown.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Scarlett Rose; one granddaughter; a brother, Donald; and his parents.
