BROTHERS DIE IN
CAR-TRAIN CRASH

A Grinnell man and his brother were killed Tuesday evening when their car struck a train on Iowa Highway 146 2-1/2 miles north of New Sharon near the Poweshiek-Mahaska county line.

Duane Braack, 56, of Oskaloosa, the driver of the car, and Wilbur Braack, 67, of Grinnell were pronounced dead at the scene. The accident remains under investigation by the Mahaska County Sheriff's Department and Mahaska County medical examiner.

Mahaska County authorities said the brothers were southbound on the highway when their car hit the second car of a Chicago & North Western freight train.

Funeral services for both men will be coducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home here, with the Rev. Kenneth Santee of the Lynnville Friends Church officiating.

Wilbur will be buried in the veterans section of Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Duane will be buried in the Friends Cemetery northeast of Lynnville.

Military rites will be conducted by members of the Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
