RITES FOR MRS. ED HENDER HELD TUESDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Ed (Thyrma) Hender were held at the Steffy Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 5, with the Rev. Howard Hayes officiating. Miss Alice Underwood was the organist at the services.

Interment was in Masonic-IOOF Cemetery at Montezuma. Casket bearers were Fred Rayl, Karl Fleming, Fred Hubbard, Joe Alexander, Howard Bernard and Ross McDonald.

Mrs. Hender, 63, died Sunday in a Grinnell hospital.

The daughter of Homer and Zella Kimbley, she was born on May 15, 1904, at Montezuma.

She attended the Montezuma schools and graduated with the class of 1921. She then attended Columbia University in Chicago, Ill., and began a career specializing in accounting for hospitals and hotels.

In 1940 she was united in marriage with Charles E. Hender. They maintained their home in Chicago until they came to Montezuma in 1961. Since living here, she has worked as assistant librarian.

She was a member of the local order of the Pythian Sisters and the Community Barracks Auxiliary.

Mrs. Hender was preceded in death by her father and one sister, Dorothy Ade. She is survived by her husband and her mother.
