Obituary dated Oct. 1, 1920

A.F. LATCHAM

A.F. Latcham, for nearly fifty years a resident of the Montezuma community, passed away in Des Moines Thursday of last week after a long illness. The funeral was held Sunday from the Ray Latcham home in Montezuma. The K.P. Ritualistic service was given at the grave.

Mr. Latcham was born in Salem county, New Jersey, May 6, 1848, and came to Iowa in 1872. He was united in marriage with Celicia Hesford, who lived but two years. In 1877 he married Mary C. Bartow and to this union five children were born. Mrs. Latcham died in 1905 and later he married Mary M. Simmerman of New Jersey who survives him.

On coming to Iowa Mr. Latcham engaged in farming for two years. He had charge of the general store and postoffice at Browntown for about five years and then returned to farmng which he followed during the rest of his active life. For the last six years he has spent his winters in Florida.

Mr. Latcham was a lifelong and faithful member of the Methodist church and was a member of Aztec lodge, No. 238, of Montezuma. He was a good neighbor, a progressive farmer and an excellent citizen. He leaves to mourn his departure, his widow; his five children, Carl B. and Ray E. Latcham of Montezuma; S.V. Latcham of Paynesville, Minn., Vida E. Bossler of Malcom, Iowa, and Orpheus A. Latcham of Cottonwood, Minn. He also has a surviving brother, Thomas of Haskell, Okla., and a sister, Mary Muta of Bridgetown, New Jersey. There are six grandchildren.
