RITES FRIDAY FOR
CLYDE CONNELLY,
PROMINENT CITIZEN

Funeral services for Clyde F. Connelly, 73, Grinnell, who died Tuesday afternoon at a local hospital following a short illness, will be held at 2 p.m. from the Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Connelly had been in failing health for the past 15 months.

Officiating at the services will be the Rev. C.E. Kingsley, pastor of the First Baptist church. Organist will be Edward Bohstedt. Pallbearers will be William Bitcon, Charles Hink, J.C. Parrott, Arthur Robison, Howard Sage and Ed Speth, with Emery Alexander, Carl Child, Tom Godfrey and Herman Martin as honorary pallbearers. Burial will be in Hazelwood cemetery.

He was the son of Finley Louis and Carrie B. Worthington Connelly and was born in Grinnell on Dec. 21st, 1886. He attended the local public schools and Grinnell high school.

On May 2nd, 1911, he was united in marriage with Lola Mae Stowe at her family home in Grinnell by the Rev. L.B. Weyand. To this union were born four daughters: Mrs. James (Wanda Louise) Williams of Springfield, Ill.; Mrs. Donald (Frances Helen) Barnes of Houston, Texas; Mrs. Max (Janice Marie) Arnold of Guthrie Center; and Mrs. Norman (Elinor Ruth) Roseland of Des Moines.

Mr. Connelly spent his entire life in Grinnell except for a few summers in his youth spent in Montana and after his marriage when he and his family lived in Spencer, Iowa, and Mankato, Minn., from 1922 to 1927. After returning to Grinnell, he and his family made their home at 1115 Main St.

He was a member of the First Baptist church and was a trustee and member of the building committee when the new church was built several years ago. He also had been a member of the Elks, of which he was a Past Exalted Ruler; and the Knights of Pythias, of which he was a Past Chancelor Commander.

He owned and operated an upholstery shop for many years and worked for the Spaulding Buggy Co. as a young man. He was also active in city politics and served as councilman from the second ward for eight years. He also had served as a member of the Grinnell fire department for 11 years.

Survivors include his wife, four daughters, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. An aunt, Mrs. Nell King of Birmingham, Ala., also survives.
