MILO V. PHILLIPS, 90

Milo Victor Phillips, 90, of Montezuma, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 1996 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell.

Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 4 at the Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma. The Rev. George Salnave, First Presbyterian Church, Montezuma and the Rev. Kevin Glesener, United Methodist Church, New Sharon, officiated.

Organist was Miss Alice Underwood and Mr. Darrell Brand was soloist. Music selections were "In the Garden" and "Peace in the Valley." Casket bearers were Ted Wyatt, Jim Hicks, Mike Hicks, Francis Freeborn, Todd Freeborn and Eldon Snook. Burial was in the Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma, with miliary rites conducted by members of Blakley-Stevens Legion Post No. 169.

Milo was born on August 11, 1906 in Mahaska County near New Sharon, the son of Milton Leonard and Lena (Shoemake) Phillips. He graduated from New Sharon High School in 1926. On May 17, 1930 he was united in marriage with Sadie (Bruggen) at Winfield, Iowa. They recently had celebrated 66 years of marriage.

Milo was a World War II Navy veteran. He retired from the Montezuma Mutual Telephone Company, where he had worked for many years. He was a member of the New Sharon United Methodist Church, Blakley-Stevens American Legion Post No. 169 of Montezuma and was a director of the Montezuma Mutual Telephone Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers: Max, Harold, Lloyd and Merrill Phillips; and a brother at birth; and a sister, Maggie Phillips.

Milo is survived by his wife, Sadie of Montezuma; a special cousin, Jean McMeekin, who has made her home with them; a sister, Vivian McNeal of Des Moines, several nieces and nephews; cousins; and other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to either the Grinnell Regional Home Care or the Montezuma Volunteer Fire Dept. Ambulance.
