SADIE M. PHILLIPS, 96

Sadie Marie Phillips, 96, of Montezuma, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2006 at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Montezuma.

Her funeral service was Monday, Jan. 23 at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma with the Rev. George M. Salnave of the First Presbyterian Church, Montezuma, officiating. Interment was at Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma.

Casket bearers were Ted Wyatt, Todd Freeborn, Mike Hicks, Tom McMeekin, Darrell Brand and Jerry Hicks.

Sadie was born Oct. 11, 1909, at Montezuma, the daughter of William Frederick and Ellen Mary (McMeekin) Bruggen. She graduated from Montezuma High School in 1927. On May 17, 1930 she was united in marriage with Milo Phillips at Winfield. She lived in Montezuma all of her married life and worked as a bookkeeper and office manager at the Montezuma Mutual Telephone Company until she retired. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She liked to do crafts.

Sadie is survived by Jean McMeekin who lived with them for many years and Sadie considered her a sister; nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Milo, on Oct. 31, 1996; a brother, Paul Bruggen, in infancy and two sisters, Helen Jan and Anna Peters.

Memorials in her name may be directed to Grinnell Regional Hospice.
