Memorial services for Mrs. William Bruggen were conducted at 2 p.m. July 14 at the Steffy Funeral Home by Rev. G.R. Dieken. Louis Gorsage played the musical selections and accompanied Mrs. Louis Lundy as she sang "The Old Rugged Cross."

Interment was in the Ewart cemetery. Casket bearers were Calvin Harden, Clifford Braley, Hugh McMeekin, Raymond Johnson, Gary Woods and Robert McMeekin.

Ellen, daughter of Mary Jane and Robert McMeekin, was born in Ewart, Feb. 24, 1880, and died at her home in Montezuma July 11 at 83 years of age.

She attended rural school and was a member of the Ewart United Presbyterian church, later, she transferred her membership to the Montezuma church.

Mar. 7, 1900, she was united in marriage with William Bruggen, and to this union, four children were born. One son, Paul, died in infancy.

They lived on a farm southeast of Ewart until 1905, when they moved to their home in Montezuma. After the death of her brother's wife in 1923, she tenderly cared for her niece, Jean, and her brother.

She is survived by her two daughters, Helen Jan and Sadie Phillips, both of Montezuma; three grandchildren, six great grandchildren; three brothers, James, Frank and William McMeekin; one sister, Sadie Johnson, other relatives and many friends.
