HELEN JAN, 92

Helen Elizabeth Jan, 92, of Montezuma, died Monday, July 11, 1994, at the Senior Home in Montezuma.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 14 at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma. Rev. Glenn Hulsebus officiated the services. Organist was Alice Underwood and soloist was Mr. Darrell Brand, with music selections of "Precious Memories" and "In the Garden." VFW casket bearers were Bill Douglass, Jim Vitera, Raymond Johnson, Verne Grife and Vernley Bone. Burial was in Masonic-IOOF Cemetery, Montezuma.

Helen was born Oct. 29, 1901, at Ewart, Iowa, the daughter of William Frederick and Mary Ellen (McMeekin) Bruggen. She attended school at Montezuma. On August 23, 1922 she was united in marriage with Frank Jan at Montezuma. They lived on a farm during their early married life. Helen had also worked as a waitress. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She had also been a member of Rebekah Lodge, VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She loved to garden and enjoyed her flowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank on November 9, 1981; an infant brother, Paul Bruggen and one sister, Anna Peters.

Helen is survived by one sister, Sadie Phillips of Montezuma, nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church or the Montezuma Ambulance fund.
