ROY WISECARVER
FOUND DEAD HERE

Roy E. Wisecarver, 72, of 1021 High St., Grinnell, was found dead at 8:40 a.m. Saturday in a doorway just north of the front entrance to Conn's True Value Hardware.

An autopsy was scheduled, although authorities said the death appeared to result from natural causes.

"There appears to be no foul play," said Sgt. Doug Shutts of the Grinnell Police Department. "We're trying now to find anyone who saw him between 2 a.m and the time he was found."

The body reportedly was discovered by taxi driver Bill Johnson.

Funeral services for Mr. Wisecarver will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Daniel Ogata, pastor of the First United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers will be Elmer Burnson, Gordon Braley, Lloyd Larsen, Willard Robison, Donald Souter, and Jim Wisecarver. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.

The Grinnell Veterans Ceremonial Unit, with Marion Gibson, commander, and Edwin M. Richardson, chaplain, will conduct military graveside rites.

The son of William Louis and Anna Marie Larsen Wisecarver, he was born near Ewart on April 8, 1905. He attended schools in Poweshiek County. During World War II, he served for four years with the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he returned to Grinnell where he worked on various farms in the vicinity. He was a member of Focht-Tennant Post No. 53, American Legion.

Survivors include three sisters, Maude Clements of Marshalltown and Gladys Wisecarver and Mrs. Frances Smith of Grinnell, and a brother, Gene Wisecarver of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Raymond, Alfred and Clarence.
