P.D. BYERLY FOUND
DEAD IN BED TUESDAY
------------------------------
Well Known and Long Time Resi-
dent of Grinnell Dies During
Night--Heart Failure.

Perry D. Byerly, for many years a resident of this city, and well known as a real estate and insurance agent, was found dead in his rooms on Commercial street Tuesday morning. He had died during the night of heart failure and an inquest which was held in the afternoon arrived at this verdict.

He had been complaining for some time of heart trouble and had been taking medicine for it. Monday evening he mentioned it to his friends at the billiard hall and when last seen about eleven o'clock that night complained of not feeling well. When he did not appear as usual Tuesday morning and no signs of life were seen about his office two doors west of the Herald office, where he slept, an investigation was made by friends with the result that he was found dead in bed.

He was a familiar figure on the streets and had lived here for many years. He was born in 1854 in Somerset county, near Harrisburg, Pa., and came with his parents to Grinnell as a mere boy in the early days of the town. The family were at one time residents of the old "Long Home,"--which stood at about the site of the present Dr. E.H. Harris property on Broad street. He was engaged in various activities here, at one time selling buggies for C.N. Perry, but of recent years he has been engaged in the real estate and insurance business.

He always had the thorough respect of his neighbors, among whom he went quietly, attending to his own business and never doing anything to harm others. He was thoroughly honest in his dealings with men and will be missed about town by many who had come to know him as an intelligent citizen and good neighbor. The Herald editors, who have had business with him from time to time, always found him obliging, reliable and honest.

Funeral services were conducted by Professor L.F. Parker from the home of his sister, Miss Minnie Byerly, yesterday morning, and the remains were interred in Hazelwood cemetery. He leaves two brothers, J.M. Byerly of this city and Al. Byerly of Newburg, and two sisters, Mrs. John Longshore of Longmont, Colo., and Miss Minnie Byerly of this city. Two brothers preceded him in death.
