FLORENCE MCDOWELL

Florence "Frankie" McDowell, 74, of Grinnell died Friday, Jan. 7, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Cook, pastor of the Community United Methodist Church of Ogden, officiating. Pallbearers were Dick Clark, Randy Cline, Wayne Funk, Paul Jurgensen, Carl Merical and Terry Neeley. Honorary bearers were Laurie Rohrer and Jon, Jenny, Kim, Allison and Jessica Neeley. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of Harvey and Maude Halterman Smith, she was born March 15, 1925, in Grinnell, where she was raised and received her education.

She was employed by the Grinnell Shoe Co. and later worked for many years for DeLong Sportswear, retiring in 1987.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Grinnell Eagles Auxiliary.

Surviving are two sons, Terry of Grinnell and David of Des Moines; two sisters, Mary Cook of Montezuma and Elna Stanley of Grinnell; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Her parents and one sister, Myrtle Lee Vitera, preceded her in death.

A Florence "Frankie" McDowell Memorial Fund has been established.
