ELNA A. STANLEY

Elna A. Stanley, 92, of Grinnell, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

A celebration of her life was held Monday, Aug. 1, 2011 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Interment was in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Memorials may be designated to the St. Francis Manor Building Fund, 2021- 4th Avenue, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.smithfh.com.

The daughter of Harvey Smith and Maude Halterman, Elna was born in the family home in Grinnell on Oct. 29, 1919. She was raised in the Grinnell area and educated in the Grinnell school system.

She was united in marriage with Fred Stanley in August of 1958 in Newton. The couple lived in Newton for many years and returned to Grinnell in 1996. Elna was a homemaker most of her life. She had resided at St. Francis Manor for the past few years. She held a special love for animals and enjoyed arts and crafts, and playing Bingo.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Cook of Montezuma; and several nieces and nephews.

Elna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred Stanley in 2008; her sisters, Myrtle Lee Vitera, Florence McDowell and Alma Smith; an infant brother; and two nephews.
