LOIS M. DUKE DIES TUESDAY

Lois Marie Duke, 83, died Tuesday, April 21, at the Mayflower Home Health Care Center.

The body was cremated. A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced by the Smith Funeral Home.

Memorials in Mrs. Duke's name may be left at the funeral home, where friends may call for additional information.

The daughter of Arthur and Rhoda McKee Griffith, she was born on April 6, 1904, in Parsons, Kan. Her family moved to Washington, Iowa, where she graduated from high school in 1922.

On Aug. 5, 1925, she was married to G. Lester Duke in Washington. The couple lived in Crawfordsville and Madison, Wis., before coming to Grinnell. The Dukes lived in Sun City, Ariz., for seven years before returning to Grinnell.

Mrs. Duke was a member of the United Church of Christ-Congregational, serving as deaconess. She was also active in the church's Women's Fellowship. She was a member of the Levart Club and Chapter JB, P.E.O. She had formerly worked at Bates Flowers of Grinnell.

Survivors include two daughters, Doris Hall of Junction City, Ore., and Nancy Kissane of Grinnell; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in May 1986; one brother, Everett Griffith; and one sister, Virginia Lindeman.
