IRIS BARKER

Iris M. Barker, 84, of Grinnell died Sunday, March 12, at Friendship Manor.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Lon Lewis, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Alice Renaud, and vocalist was Milton Severe.

Pallbearers were Ron Augustine, John Dodds, John Hulderson, Reg Wells, Blaine Wells and Brent Wells. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Barker's name may be made to the Grinnell United Methodist Church.

She was the daughter of Jessie and Pearl Wolfe Augustine and was born Nov. 17, 1910, near Brighton. She was raised on the family farm near Fairfield and attended rural school there.

She was married to John S. Barker April 14, 1928, in Birmingham. They farmed in Van Buren and Louisa counties, moving to the Rock Creek area west of Grinnell in 1948. They moved to Grinnell in 1962, and Mrs. Barker worked as an X-ray technician for the former St. Francis Hospital. She also worked in the dietary department of Friendship Manor.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Rebekah Lodge, the Pythian Sisters, the Victor Grange and the Grandmohters Club.

Surviving are one daughter, Twyla Wells of Grinnell; one son, Stanley of Boise, Idaho; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one sister, Mildred Riley of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Alice Arnold; and four brothers, Archer, Keith, Frank and Burt Augustine.
