MEMORIAL SET FOR AUTENS

A memorial service for C. Windsor Auten Sr. and Ruth Saunders Auten, former residents of Kellogg and Grinnell, will be conducted at 2:30 p.m Sunday, Sept. 6, at Pleasant View Methodist Church southwest of Kellogg.

Mrs. Auten died at her home in Belmont, Calif., Jan. 10, and Mr. Auten died on July 4 at St. Joseph, Mo., following his move to be nearer a son at Dearborn, Mo. Their bodies were cremated and ashes spread according to their direction. Family members and friends are being invited to participate in the memorial service. Lunch will be served following the service.

Mr. and Mrs. Auten graduated from Grinnell High School in 1926, married that year, and lived on a farm south of Kellogg until moving to Berea, Ohio, in the spring of 1929. Mr. Auten worked for American Airlines for 40 years as a mechanic and supervisor, retiring in 1972. They had lived in Ohio, New York, Texas and California but claimed Iowa as home.

They are survived by two sons, Charles Windsor Jr. of Denton, Texas, and C. Richard of Dearborn, Mo.; two sisters, Anne Lois Auten Reynolds of England and Margaret Auten Beveridge of Middletown, Conn.; two brothers, Bert Auten of Newton and Gene Auten of Kellogg; nine grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

They were preceded in death by their parents; Windsor's two brothers, Jay and Melvin of Kellogg; and Ruth's brother and sister.
