The Grinnell (IA) Herald; Dec. 05, 1882

BROOKLYN, Nov. 30.--Henry Hillman, living about three miles southeast of this place, hung himself this morning about 6 o'clock. He rose, dressed himself, and going to a kitchen used in summer only, put a barrel with a pail upon it in position under one of the upper joists, adjusted the rope, called good bye to his wife, who was in bed up stairs, and kicked away the pail. His wife, terribly scared, ran down stairs, past where he was hanging, and to the nearest neighbors for assistance, but they came too late, as life was extinct when they cut him down. Deceased was subject to spells of insanity.
