P.G. Varnum, one of Poweshiek county's wealthiest farmers, is dead as a result of injuries received Monday evening in a fall from a windmill. No one saw the accident but it is presumed that he fell about 20 feet. He was unconscious when found lying at the foot of the ladder.

Mr. Varnum was brought at once to the Grinnell Community hospital. An operation was performed on Tuesday but his life could not be saved and he died at 5:00 o'clock Tuesday evening. The injuries consisted of a fractured jaw, a fractured pelvis bone and a ruptured bladder.

Mr. Varnum was a bachelor and lived with his brother, Isaac, near Malcom. The brothers owned 2300 acres of land.

The funeral was held from the Methodist church in Malcom yesterday afternoon and the services were in charge of the K.P. lodge of which Mr. Varnum was a devoted and prominent member.
