LUCY A. PHELPS

Lucy A., daughter of Harrison and Nancy Dillsaver, was born in Stephenson County, Illinois, February 6, 1846, and passed from this life at her home in Deep River, Iowa on May 2, 1922, aged 76 years, 2 months and 25 days. In early life she united with the Second Day Advent Church of which she remained a member until her death.

On January 22, 1864, she was united in marriage to Thomas J. Phelps. The family lived in Illinois until 1873 when Mr. and Mrs. Phelps and their four children moved to Iowa locating on a farm in Poweshiek County. Later they moved on a small farm near Deep River where they lived until Mr. Phelps' death on July 23, 1900, after which Mrs. Phelps moved into town.

To this union were born seven children, Marthy Clements of West Point, Va.; Clarence Phelps of Guernsey; Horace A., who died when a small child; Hattie Forby of Grinnell; Lottie Emal, of Deep River; Philetty Henzie of Waterloo and Arminta Hurtt of Chicago, Ill. She is also survived by twelve grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Jane Hubbard of Montezuma, a brother Milo Dillsaver of Barnes City and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held from her home in Deep River Thursday morning at 11 o'clock conducted by the pastor of the Christian Church, and she was laid to rest in Golden Rod Cemetery. The pall bearers were nephews of the deceased, Carl Pierce, Nels Keller, Truse Kriswell, Bill Hubbard, Charles Dillsaver and Charles McWilliams.
