RITES FOR MRS. ARVIDSON HERE FRIDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude M. Arvidson were Friday afternoon, January 9, at the Steffy Funeral Home with the Rev. Lester Hall officiating. Music was by Mrs. Vincent Johnson, soloist, accompanied by Miss Alice Underwood.

Casket bearers were Carl Pearson, Harold Swanson, Harold Lofgreen, Ross Meldrem, Ernest Peterson and Charles Johnston. Burial was at Jackson Township Cemetery.

Mrs. Arvidson, 91, died Tuesday, January 6, at Grinnell General Hospital.

The daughter of Louis and Mary Peterson, she was born at Amaland, Sweden, on Sept. 14, 1878. She lived most of her life in the Montezuma area after the family moved to the United States when she was three years old.

On Dec. 12, 1900, she was united in marriage with O.A. (Benjamin) Arvidson. To this union eight children were born. Two sons - Carl and Harold - died in infancy.

Survivors include four sons, Emil of Brooklyn, Elmer, Melvin and Donald of Montezuma; two daughters, Mrs. Leo (Ruth) Heissdorffer of Sigourney and Mrs. Viola McDowell of Montezuma; eight grandchildren, Mrs. Robert (Carolyn) Weisskopf of Brooklyn, Mrs. Laurence (Donna) St. John of Fairfield, Calif., Ronald Arvidson of Malcom, Shirley Arvidson of Cedar Rapids, Laurie Arvidson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Pamela Arvidson of Montezuma, Mrs. Edward (Joyce) Shadley of Montezuma, Mrs. Robert (Sharon) Ferguson of New Sharon; five step-granddaughters, Mrs. Gordon (Carol) Felper and Mrs. John (Kathleen) Andes of Grinnell, Mrs. Richard (Jo) Gallassi of Bloomington, Minn., Miss Mary Fallis of Montezuma; nine great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren, Mark, Julie and Susan Shadley, Rhonda Ferguson, Tammy and Nancy Weisskepf, Rodney, Brent and Bradley Arvidson, Brian Worthy, Sheri and Jennifer Felper, Anne and Lisa Falassi and Stacy Wiseman.

She was preceded in death by her husband in March of 1959; her parents; a brother, E.W.T. Peterson; three sisters; and a grandson, Keith Arvidson.
