MALCOM RESIDENT,
SUCCUMBS TUESDAY

David Homer Craven, commonly known as "Greeley" Craven, 97, of near Malcom, died Tuesday evening at a Grinnell hospital following failing health of the past three weeks.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday from the Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Charles Fry, pastor of the Carlisle Christian church, officiating. Organ music will be provided by Mrs. Willard Heffner.

Pallbearers will be Lawrence Sleeuwenhoek, Lester Osborn, John Craven, Larry Barnes, Lawrence Madill and James Roth. Burial will be in the family lot at Our Silent City cemetery in Kellogg.

He was the son of David P. and Julia Bennett Craven and was born on a farm north of Kellogg on July 10, 1869. He attended the Kellogg rural schools and later the Hazel Dell Academy at Newton.

On Jan. 10, 1906, at Grinnell, he was united in marriage with Jane Nicholl. To this union were born 10 children, seven of whom survive: Helen Craven, Clarence Craven, Joyce Craven and Janyce Craven, all of the home near Malcom; Mrs. Fred (Evelyn) Coffee of Torrance, Calif.; Mrs. Carl (Dorothy) Quinn of near Newton; and Mrs. Thomas (Eleanor) Barnes of Newton.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Beatrice Pratt of Rochester, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; his wife Jane, on Sept. 12, 1962; a son and daughter, Dwight and Grace Craven in an auto-train accident on Nov. 23, 1965; four brothers, Edward, John, Thurman and Galen; and two sisters, Mary and Martha.

Mr. Craven had lived near Kellogg and Newton before moving to Grinnell and later to the Malcom area in 1939 where he farmed until retirement.
