MILDRED STEPANEK

Mildred "Millie" Stepanek, 72, of Grinnell died of congestive heart failure Sunday, April 7, at Grinnell Regional Medcial Center.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Grinnell Christian Church, with the Rev. John Epperson officiating. Lorna Lang was pianist, and Ed Poush, Stacy Stepanek and Storm Seymour were vocalists. Casket bearers were Dave, Kenny and Terry Dvorak; Gene Gritsch; Greg Kaisand; and Danny, Gary and Randy Nekola. Burial was at the National Cemetery in Vining, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She was born April 2, 1929, in rural Tama county to Frank and Tena Lebeda Nekola. She was raised on the family farm and attended rural school before graduating from Toledo High School.

On Sept. 19, 1951, she was married to Charles J. Stepanek in Chelsea. They operated a grain and dairy farm in the Grinnell area.

Surviving are five sons, Charles, Darwin and Rick of Grinnell, Kevin of Newton and Ron of Yale; 11 grandchildren; one brother, Frankie Nekola of Toledo; and one sister, Marcella Dvorak of Toledo.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
