ELIZABETH WOOD

Elizabeth (Betty) Wood, 88, died Saturday, May 29, at St. Francis Manor.

Her body was willed to medical science and there will be no memorial service. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

The elder daughter of George R. and Minnie E. Lowrey Clifton, she was born March 28, 1916, in Grinnell. She graduated from Grinnell High School in 1934 and attended Grinnell College. She was united in marriage with Kenneth Wood on Dec. 29, 1937. In the early 1940s she was employed at the National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C., while her husband served in the United States Navy. They moved to Oswego, N.Y., where they ran a turkey farm with her aunt, Sarah Lowrey, and Betty worked in a medical clinic. In 1972 they moved to Grinnell to care for her parents.

She enjoyed flowers, bird watching, crafts and spending time with her sister Lois C. Meacham with whom she resided utnil her admission to St. Francis Manor in April, 2004.

She is survived by her sister Lois C. Meacham; two nephews, one niece; one great nephew; two great nieces and one great great nephew.
