VINNIE E. POWELL,
FORMER RESIDENT,
DIES IN COLORADO

A former longtime Grinnell resident, Mrs. Vinnie Eaton Powell, 89, died Nov. 25th in a Colorado Springs, Colo., hospital.

Mrs. Powell had lived in Colorado Springs for the last two years. Previously, she had been a resident of Grinnell for over 50 years.

She was born Dec. 4th, 1876, on a farm near Lynnville, where she lived until her marriage to Horace L. Eaton, a jeweler at New Sharon. After Mr. Eaton's death in 1906, she and her two children lived in Newton until her marriage to James H. Powell of Searsboro.

The family moved from Searsboro to Grinnell in 1915. They were owners of the Powell Hotel here until Mr. Powell's retirement in 1940. He preceded her in death in 1956.

Mrs. Powell was a member of the Methodist church, Worthwhile Club, Needle Workers Club, and Beulah chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, all in Grinnell.

Survivors include her four children, Horace C. Eaton and Beryl Eaton of Colorado Springs, Mrs. Merritt Pitcher of Grundy Center, and Mrs. Harry Urban of Omaha, Neb. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Will Alice of Grinnell, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
