The Grinnell (IA) Herald; June 19, 1900

--Elvira M. Foster was born at Schroon Lake, N.Y., on the 22nd of April, 1834, and died at her home in Chicago on the 13th of June, 1900. On the 8th of Aug., 1856, she was married to Horace Seaman and moved with him to Grinnell about 1869. Three children were born to this union, one of whom died while young; the other two, A.H. Seaman and Miss Elizabeth Seaman, the only remaining members of the family, live in Chicago. Mr. and Mrs. Seaman lived happily together for forty-four years, when he was called away. Mrs. Seaman continued to live here with her children till 1892, when all moved to Chicago where they have since lived. Before moving to Chicago Mrs. Seaman fell and suffered a fracture of the hip, from which she has been a constant sufferer till death relieved her. Her agonies grew constantly more intense and other complications set in. For five years she has been entirely helpless. All was done for her that medical skill could do to relieve her pain and lengthen her life, but the end came. Through all of her sufferings she was patient and uncomplaining. During her early life Mrs. Seaman was a member of the M.E. church, and all through life lived out the ideals of her youth. While here she took an active part in the W.R.C., and served that body as president for a time. She was ever identifeid with benevolent and patriotic movements. Short services were held in Chicago, and the remains were brought to Hazelwood Cemetery, Friday, for burial, where services were conducted by Prof. L.F. Parker.
