VELMA HOLAN DIED, WAS
DEEP RIVER'S 'DOLL MAKER'

Mrs. Velma Inez Holan, 51, Deep River died Sunday at Mahaska Hospital.

She was born the daughter of John and Minnie Schrader Ranfeld, on April 17, 1917, at Guernsey. On Sept. 20, 1939, she married Fred Joseph Holan at Lancaser, Mo. They had lived at rural Deep River since 1942 and previous to that had lived at Chelsea.

Mrs. Holan was known for making and selling novelty dolls.

Surviving are her husband; a daughter, Valetta Vee Holan and a son, Nilan Fred Holan, both of Des Moines; two grandchildren; three brothers, Mern Ranfeld of Montezuma, Bert Ranfeld of Guernsey, and Lester Ranfeld of Deep River, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Connell of Barnes City and Mrs. Alex Keller of Victor.

The funeral service will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Harden Chapel with the Rev. Herbert Foxworthy officiating. Burial will be in the Sixteen Cemetery.
