OBITUARY.
---------------
WILLIAM DUFFUS

William Duffus died Thursday morning, July 18, at a hospital in Des Moines, following an operation for cancer.

The body was brought to the home in Montezuma and was taken to Malcom Sunday where the funeral was held that afternoon. The service was conducted by Rev. A.B. Cadwell of the M.E. church, assisted by Rev. Baskerville of the Malcom Presbyterian church.

William Duffus was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, March 12, 1851, and died in the M.E. hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, July 18, 1918, at the age of 67 years, 4 months and 6 days.

In the year 1879, he came to this country with his parents, three sisters and two brothers. He was married to Sarah M. Andes, February 25, 1886. Three children were born to this union. He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, three children, namely, Mrs. Ida Barnes, Fred B. Duffus and Mrs. May Ferneau; four grandchildren; two brothers and one sister; two sisters having preceded him to that Better Land.

His life has been spent on a farm in Poweshiek county, with the exception of the last two years, when, thinking farm life a little too strenuous, he with his wife moved to Montezuma to spend the remaining years. About a year ago, he began failing in health and finally succumbed to that dreaded disease cancer. Through his illness he was ever cheerful and bore his sufferings patiently. He has lived a true Christian life, having united with the church in his boyhood days and at the time of his decease being a member of the Presbyterian church at Malcom.
