The Grinnell (IA) Herald; June 2, 1896

--Delia Lucretia Squires was born at Caldwald Manor, Canada, March 31, 1842. While quite young she removed with her parents to Aurora, Ill., and in 1856 came to Iowa. She was married to Lyman C. Bailey of Toledo, Iowa, the 9th of August, 1861. They lived in Grinnell a few years and then moved to Carroll City, Iowa. Six children blessed this union, all of whom are living, Mrs. J.P. Skinner and Tad A. Bailey, until recently of Springfield, Ill., Mrs. W.A. Arthur and Mrs. J.E. Bayer of Grinnell, Charles C. of Joliet, Ill., and Fred L., who is living at home. Mrs. Bailey was married to Mr. S.S. Preston the 16th of Aug., 1887. Mrs. Preston has been an invalid most of the time for five years, and although she had every comfort that loving hands could devise or medical skill suggest, she was a great sufferer. Nearly three months ago her husband took her to the A.T. Still Infirmary, Kirksville, Mo., hoping that she might be made more comfortable, but she was not able to take the treatment. She had borne her suffering with great patience and courage, but was glad when she realized that her release was near. It was her strong desire to be with her family once more, and on Tuesday morning, May 27, she was brought home. Wednesday morning she quietly passed away. Mrs. Preston's mother is living in Brooklyn, Ia. Besides her children and her husband's children, a number of brothers and sisters mourn her loss. The funeral occurred at the house Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E.M. Vittum, a large company of friends being present. Among those present at the funeral were Miss Gertrude Preston, of Des Moines, Horace Squires, of Glidden, Frank Squires, of Chelsea, Mrs. S.L. Squires and Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Manatt of Brooklyn and Chas. Bailey of Joliet, Ill.
