John Corrough, for many years a prominent and highly respected resident of Poweshiek county passed away at 11 o'clock Saturday morning at his home in Brooklyn. He was 77 years old. Mr. Corrough had been in failing health for some time, but had been confined to his bed only a few weeks. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon.

Mr. Corrough was born in Scott county, and came with his parents to the Corrough farm near Malcom in 1868. This farm is now owned by his brother, James. He bought a farm near Brooklyn in 1887, and continued to reside on it until he moved to Brooklyn a few years ago.

Mr. Corrough was a fifty-year Mason, having received his fifty-year certificate of honorary membership in the Masonic lodge last April. He was a good Mason, a good man and a good citizen, and has left the impress of a good life on the community in which he lived.

Surviving him are his brothers, James J. and W.L. Corrough of Grinnell, and Samuel Corrough of St. Joseph, Mo., and four sisters, Mrs. Sarah Duffus and Miss Belle Corrough of Grinnell, Mrs. Rachael Smith of Clarksville, Ia., and Mrs. Agnew Barnum of Great Falls, Mont. Two sisters who preceded him in death were Mrs. Margaret Shifflett, mother of J.G. Shifflett of this city, and Mary Corrough. His only daughter passed away about a year ago.
