ELEANOR J. TONE

Eleanor J. Tone, 80, of Grinnell died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2006, at Mayflower.

A funeral service was held Thursday, Sept. 7, at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Len Eberhart officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and vocalist was Marty Duffus. Violin music was by Diane Eberhart. Pallbearers were Mike, Jackie, Mike Jr., Phil, Diane, Ryan, Jessica and Jasmin Tone. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Grinnell United Methodist Church.

The daughter of Abner Webster and Agnes Cora Stoner Tone, she was born Dec. 18, 1925, in Grinnell. She moved with her family to Aberdeen, S.D., where they lived for seven years before returning to Grinnell. She received her education in the Grinnell School District. She was employed for many years in the food service department at Grinnell College, retiring in 1975. She was an active member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging. She also was active in the Grinnell Senior Center and with the former Iowa Peace Institute.

She is survived by one sister, Avis Tone of Grinnell and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Solomon Wayne Tone and one sister Martha Mae Tone.
