MARTHA MAE TONE

Martha Mae Tone, 66, of Grinnell died Thursday, Feb. 24, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lon L. Lewis officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Willard Emmert, Jim Gilbert, Kenneth Isenberg, Don Miller, Mike Tone and Phil Tone. Honorary bearers were Mikey, Ryan and Jessica Tone.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of Abner Webster and Agnes Stoner Tone, she was born April 3, 1927, on her parents' farm east of Grinnell. She moved with her family to Aberdeen, S.D., where they lived for seven years before returning to Grinnell. She received her education in the Grinnell School District.

She worked for many years in the food service department at Grinnell College, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and the Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging. She was a former Sunday school teacher.

Surviving are two sisters, Avis M. and Eleanor J. Tone, both of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Solomon Wayne Tone.
