Carrie McDonough

Carrie Elizabeth McDonough, 85, of Grinnell died Saturday, Dec. 23, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev Del Dawes, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler. Pallbearers were David Austin, Dr. John DeMeulenaere, Bob Fuerst, Cyril Gallagher, and Arlyn and Tad VanZante. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of William and Blanch Adell Earnest Meeker, she was born Sept. 21, 1915, near Tama. She received her education in rural schools.

She was married to Ivan A. McDonough July 2, 1938, in Kirksville, Mo. They farmed east of Grinnell until retiring in 1988 and moving to the Mayflower. They spent winters at Pine Island, Fla., for 23 years. Since 1998, Mrs. McDonough had been living with her niece, Barbara VanZante, near Grinnell.

She was a 50-year-plus member of the Farm Bureau and attended the Grinnell United Methodist Church.

Surviving is a sister, Mary Alice Stone of Excelsior Springs, Mo. Her husband, her parents and one brother, Clarence Meeker, preceded her in death.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Mayflower Human Needs Fund.
