DAVID LONGAKER, 85

David Longaker, 85, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, Aug. 4, 1998 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Services were Aug. 7 at United Methodist Church in Montezuma.

The Rev. H. Burr Bryant of the Methodist Church and Rev. Keith Scott officiated.

The congregtion sang "How Great Thou Art" and soloist Harold Wheeler sang "Because He Lives" and "Just a Closer Walk," accompanied on the organ by Alice Underwood.

David Decker, Andy Brocka, Doug Decker, Kevin Ryan and Laconn Opperman were casket bearers.

The Masonic-IOOF Cemetery in Montezuma was the place of interment.

David was born June 14, 1913 in Mahaska County to David Earl and Susie Amy (Fleener) Longaker. He graduated from New Sharon High School and attended college in Cedar Falls.

He married Olene Cranston in 1937 in Linn Creek, Mo. To this union two daughters were born.

David worked for Sears in Rock Island, Oskaloosa and Cedar Rapids before retiring to Montezuma. In 1990, the family moved to Cedar Falls.

David was a Mason and a Shriner for more than 50 years. He loved horses and was a member of the EL-KA-Hir Arabian Horse Troupe. He was also a member of the First Methodist Church in Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lester Longaker; and a sister, Evelyn White.

He is survived by his wife, Olene of Cedar Falls; two daughters, Mary Brocka and husband John of New Hartford and Judy Decker of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, David Decker and wife Marjean, Doug Decker, Debbie Ryan and husband Kevin, Andy Brocka and wife Brandy and Jolene Opperman and husband Laconn; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Helena Longaker of Montezuma; other relatives and many friends.

Memorials may be directed to the Montezuma United Methodist Church.
