Eline L. McDonough

Eline Lorraine Mitchell McDonough was born on Dec. 22, 1920, on a farm in State Center, Iowa. When she was 9 years old, the family moved to Brooklyn, Iowa, where she lived until completing High School.

In Grinnell, Iowa, she worked in a glove factory, a shoe factory, and then a lady's dress shop. She met Carl McDonough, and they were married on Mar. 7, 1943. While Carl served in WWII, she worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. They were together until she died on Jan. 15, 2011 - almost 68 yrs. After WWII they moved to Marshalltown, IA, and then to Gainesville, FL, where they have lived since 1956. They have one daughter, Diane.

In Alachua County, Eline was a Girl Scout leader for 20 yrs, an Alachua General Hospital volunteer for 37 yrs, and a voting clerk for 20 yrs. She served as 1st VP and President of the Alachua Federation of Women's Club, was a member of the Gainesville Woman's Club for 49 yrs., and belonged to the First Christian Church for 65 yrs.

A private, family only service was held at Forest Meadows Cemetery on Jan. 17, 2011.
