Ivan McDonough

Ivan Arthur McDonough, 82, died Saturday, Jan. 18, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raymond C. Lott, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Organist was Margaret Wheeler, and pallbearers were Clyde Austin, John C. DeMeulenaere, Cyril Gallagher, Donald C. Lambie, Ted Mokricky and Eldon Oltrogge. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Cassius and Emma Schnell McDonough, he was born Sept. 26, 1909, on his parents' farm in Jasper County. He attended rural school and graduated from Grinnell High School in 1929.

He was married to Carrie Meeker July 2, 1938, in Kirksville, Mo. The couple farmed east of Grinnell, living on the farmstead for 50 years before moving to the Mayflower Home in 1988. They spent their winters in Pine Island, Fla.

Mr. McDonough was a member of the Poweshiek County Farm Bureau and attended the Grinnell United Methodist Church and the Pine Island Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Carrie, and three brothers, Glenn and Homer, both of Grinnell, and Carl of Gainesville, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister in infancy.
