--------------------------

Funeral services for Mrs. Emily Evans Macklin were conducted by the Rev. William Welsh, pastor of the Baptist church, at the family residence at 927 Elm street at 2 o'clock Tuesday. Beautiful music was furnished by a quartet from the Baptist church including Mrs. Ed Bohstedt, Ed Bohstedt Jr., Mrs. Howard Hyde and William Greenwald.

Pall bearers at the funeral were six nephews: Donovan, Kenneth, Lyman, Leonard, and Willis Evans of Grinnell and Harold Evans of Des Moines. Burial was in the family lot in Hazelwood cemetery.

Emily Evans, daughter of John and Esther Evans, as born near Ross in Herefordshire, England, Nov. 5, 1867. When she was about three years old, the family came to America and settled at Davenport, Iowa. In 1875 the family moved to Grinnell and this has been the family home ever since.

Her girlhood and young womanhood were spent on the old family homestead in the Maple Grove neighborhood. Here on Sept. 21, 1892 she was united in marriage to George Macklin and together they set up their home on their own farm in the same neighborhood. About 1900 they sold their farm and moved to Grinnell which has been their home most of the time since.

In her early life, Mrs. Macklin united with the Baptist church of this city of which her mother and brother and sisters were members. For nearly fifty years she has walked and lived in this faith without wavering, always willing and glad to do her share for the cause which has meant so much to her.

She was the first one of a family of eight children to be called away. All have grown to middle age in the vicinity of Grinnell. The father and mother of this family pased on about twenty years ago.

Mrs. Macklin leaves her husband, one son Sherman Macklin, one daughter, Arvilla Macklin and one granddaughter, Wanda Macklin. She is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Mark Holmes, Mrs. W.R. Scandrett of Grinnell and Mrs. Chas. E. Wells of Montezuma; and four brothers, George, Will, Charles and John Evans, all of Grinnell.
