Nancy A. Mitchell was born in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, Dec. 9th, 1840, and died at the home of her son in Brighton, Ia., May 24, 1929, aged 88 years, 4 months, and 15 days. She was the second child of Mr. and Mr. John Mitchell. Of the seven children three are now living, Mary Jane Lewis, Harlan, Ia., Juliet Jordan, Alvo, Nebraska, and Curtis Mitchell of Los Angeles, Calif.

She came with her parents to Iowa in 1855 when she was 15 years old. They located on North Skunk River in Poweshiek County.

She was married to Amos Bartlett, Sept. 25, 1860. They lived practially all their married life in Mahaska and Poweshiek Counties. Eight children were born to them, seven of whom are still living: John, New Sharon, Ia.; James, Marion, Ia.; Willis, Washington State; Cary, New Sharon; Harriet McDowell, Searsboro, Ia.; Roscoe, Brighton, Ia.; Monroe, Washington State; Oliver died Oct. 8, 1876, and Mr. Bartlett January 20th, 1912.

Since the death of her husband, she has made her home with her children where she was given every service loving children could give.

The deceased was reared a Presbyterian but in May 1914 she was taken into the Christian Church in New Sharon. For only a short time she was able to attend and take part in the worship for in her advancing years she gradually grew weaker both in mind and body till the summons came and she left loved ones for the great beyond.

Mrs. Bartlett was a kind and loving wife and mother, known only to be loved and honored. She rests from her labors and her works do follow her. The body was brought from Brighton Saturday and a funeral service was held at the Christian Church Sunday, May 16th, H.B Cornell giving the sermon. The body was laid to rest in Stewart cemetery by the side of her husband.
