The Grinnell (IA) Herald

--Daniel Dodge was born in Cooper, Maine, October 8, 1831. With his parents he moved to Merrimac, New Hampshire, his home until 1851, when with his parents and two brothers he came to Princeton, Ill. He was married in 1856 to Nancy E. Keller, and to them two sons were given. In 1865 he came with his wife and family to Keokuk county, Iowa. Here one of his sons, at the age of ten, was called to his eternal rest. Since 1883 Mr. Dodge has been a respected citizen of Grinnell. He was a kind, loving husband and an indulgent father. He was thoughtful and reserved, candid and sincere, inspiring all who came within the influence of his godly life. His friends and neighbors had implicit faith in his mature judgment, and on various occasions honored him with public office. He served honorably as councilman of this city. As a business man he was honored for his sterling integrity. The funeral occurred at the house Wednesday at 1:30 o'clock P.M., conducted by his pastor, Rev. E.M. Vittum, of the Congregational church. A devoted wife, his son Charles, his brother William and brother Rodney H. of Ancona, Ill., and we may safely say all who knew him, mourn his death.
