ANTON VANOUS RITES TODAY

Anton "Tony" Vanous, 77, of 1117 Hamilton Ave., Grinnell, died Thursday evening at Grinnell General Hospital.

The son of Josef and Frances Lamparek Vanous, he was born Aug. 22, 1896, in Amana, Iowa. He attended rural school near his home and was graduated from Amana High School.

On Nov. 18, 1924, he was married to Blanche Novak in Marengo. The couple had one daughter, Mrs. Phillip (Emma) Stewart of Grinnell. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Vanous made their home in Amana. In 1932, the moved to Grinnell, where Mr. Vanous was associated with the Morrison-Shults Mfg. Co., manufacturing wool yarn. He served with the U.S. Army during World War I.

Survivors include his daughter, Emma; three grandchildren, Mrs. Gordon (Connie Jo) Jensen of Menominee, Mich., and Betty Ann and Robert Lee Stewart, both of Grinnell; and two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Anna) Votroubek of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Agnes Erusha of Amana. He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche, who died Nov. 16, 1962; his parents; two brothers, Joe and Frank Vanous; and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Rozek and Mrs. Frances Bahndorf.

Funeral services for Mr. Vanous were held at 3 p.m. today (Monday) at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Leo V. Kuebrich, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, officiating. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner, and vocalist was Francis Graves. Pallbearers were Orin Andes, Ted Boat, Norman A. Erickson, Virgil Lincoln, C.J. O'Brien, and Wiley Taylor.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.
