JOSIE JOHNSON

Josie Johnson, 92, of New Sharon died Friday, Aug. 17, at the New Sharon Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at the New Sharon Assembly of God Church, with burial at Union Mills Cemetery. Visiting hours will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.

She was the daughter of Hugh Benton and Anna Bell Shaw Groves and was born Dec. 8, 1908, in Union Mills. She was raised in the Union Mills area and attended McMains School and New Sharon High School.

On Nov. 14, 1925, she was married to Clovis Johnson in Oskaloosa. She worked at Midwest Manufacturing for several years and also as a cook at a Grinnell hospital, retiring in 1970.

She was a member of the New Sharon Assembly of God Church and was involved in the Dorcas Society. She was also a member of the Domestic Science Club.

Surviving are four sons, Duane of Gilman, Hanley of New Sharon, Oscar of Bella Vista, Ark., and Perry of Loveland, Colo.; four daughters, Ilean Whitehead of New Sharon, Ava Stone of New Sharon, Dixie Ver Steeg of Nashville, Ind., and Phyllis Story of Grinnell; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Cleda Johnson; one grandson; two sisters, Naomi Stegeman and Valena Van Cleave; and six brothers, Carl, John, Lloyd, Jesse, Earl and Clarence Groves.

Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
