LEAMOND ELIAS STEVENSON

Leamond Elias Stevenson, son of William Stevenson and Rosalia Barney, was born on a farm north of Deep River on June 21, 1894 and died July 10, 1969, at the age of 75 years and 19 days. He lived his entire life in the Deep River community, graduating from the Deep River High School in 1913.

He was united in marriage September 10, 1919 with Eola Hanawalt who passed away March 2, 1948. To this union were born two sons, the first of whom died in infancy, and Warren.

He was united in marriage with Fay Paulding on December 23, 1949, and they have resided in Deep River.

He was a member of the Deep River Methodist church, a veteran of World War I, serving in the European theater, and a member of Golden Rod Lodge No. 512 and would have become a 50-year Mason on February 17, 1970. He was also a member of the Cedar Rapids Consistory.

He is survived by his wife Fay, and son Warren; Mrs. Joan McCombs and six grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Johnston and Mrs. Nora Gibson, many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.

Services were held July 12 at the Deep River Methodist church, with the Rev. Leo Wilson officiating. Mrs. Charles Norris was organist.

Casketbearers were Phil Winegarden, John White, Carl Baustian, Rex Rose, Larry Icenbice and Terry Johnson.

Masonic rites were conducted by Hoyt Woody, past grand master of Iowa AF & Am. Deep River Post 296, American Legion, conducted military rites. The Legion presented a U.S. flag to the widow of the World War I veteran.

Burial was in Golden Rod cemetery, under the direction of Steffy Funeral Home.
