ROSS SWART SERVICES SET

Ross R. Swart, 81, of 310 Second Ave., Grinnell, died of cancer Monday evening, June 17, at his home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Robert Block, pastor of the Newton Community Reformed Church, officiating. Organist will be Alice Renaud.

Pallbearers will be Chris Harris, Walter Harris, Harold Cullogh, Gene Morrison, George Reavis and Gene Shook. Honorary bearers will be Lyman Case, Don DeWitt, Virgil Doud, Keith Gregory, Glenn Harris, Addison Jones, Wendell Kooistra, Richard Sanders and Charles Smith. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Masonic rites were conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Clark Watkins and members of Hermon Masonic Lodge officiating.

Memorials may be made to the Ross R. Swart memorial Fund and left at the Smith Funeral Home.

The son of Albert T. and Minnie Wilkening Swart, he was born March 26, 1904, at State Center. Following the death of his mother, he came to Grinnell with his father in 1905 and attended Grinnell schools.

He was married to Florence Emily Squire on March 28, 1925, in Grinnell. The couple continued to live in Grinnell where he was employed as a machinist and carpenter.

Mr. Swart was a 37-year member of Hermon Masonic Lodge No. 273, A.F. and A.M.; Palestine Chapter No. 143 of the Royal Arch Masons; and Beulah Chapter No. 47 of the Order of Eastern Star.

He is survived by his wife, Florence; his children, Ray I. Swart of Junction City, Ore., and Colleen Schuring of Rte. 4, Newton; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three half-sisters, Evelyn Hamrick of Peoria, Ill., Edith Walker of Morton, Ill., and Mary Alice Brinkley of Creve Coeur, Ill.; and two half-brothers, Albert Swart of Spencer and Wayne Swart of Redondo Beach, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a half-sister, Laura Grewell.
